Swedish Survival Phrases Lesson 39 - Using the post office in Sweden.
In today's lesson, we're going to take a trip to the post office. Now, the post office in Sweden is called Posten, "the mail."
Let's break it down by syllable: Posten.
Posten.
Today, we're going to work on getting your postcards, letters, and packages home. The expression to accomplish this is "I'd like to send this to…" and then the desired country. For today's lesson, we'll use New York.
In Swedish, "I'd like to send this to New York" is Jag vill skicka det här till New York.
Jag vill skicka det här till New York.
Let's break it down by syllable: Jag vill skicka det här till New York.
Now, let's hear it once again: Jag vill skicka det här till New York.
The first word Jag means "I."
Let's break down this word and hear it one more time: Jag.
Jag.
Jag.
This is followed by Vill, which in Swedish is "want."
Vill.
Vill.
Next, we have Skicka which means "send."
Skicka
Skicka
So, to recap here, we have Jag vill skicka. Literally, this means "I want to send."
Let’s take a look at the next part. Det här, which means "this."
Det här
Det här
This is followed by Till, which in English means "to."
Till.
Till.
Then, we just add the location, which in this example is New York.
So, all together, we have Jag vill skicka det här till New York. Literally, this means "I want to send this to New York."
Now, we can build this up a bit by adding in the words for what we would like to send. For example, above we mentioned postcards, letters, and packages. So, let's start there.
The word for "postcard" in Swedish is Vykort.
Vykort.
So, the expression will now sound like Jag vill skicka vykort till New York

Outro

Okay, to close out this lesson, we'd like for you to practice what you've just learned. I'll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you're responsible for saying it aloud. You'll have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so Lycka till. Okay, here we go!
