Becky: Alright, listeners, let's get into the top five language learning strategies...
Peter: ...and how you can apply them with our learning system right now.
Becky: Number one- try harder lessons to improve faster.
Peter: This almost seems counterintuitive, but it’s the best way to improve.
Becky: So if you’re an Absolute Beginner or Beginner... try an Intermediate lesson.
Peter: It’s like working out. If you want to get stronger, you need to try heavier weights.
Becky: Right, and don’t worry, if you don’t fully understand it at first....
Peter: ...our teachers break down the conversation in every lesson, so you’ll get it.
Becky: And with the line-by-line audio, lesson notes, and lesson transcripts...
Peter: ...you get the complete translations and explanations.
Becky: So imagine being able to master a lesson that’s above your level.
Peter: That’s some serious progress, Becky. Definitely a great way to learn fast.
Becky: Number two- stay motivated by tracking your learning progress with the Dashboard.
Peter: This is a great one. Listeners, watch your progress grow...
Becky: ...is an incredible source of motivation. It only makes you want to get better.
Peter: Fitness is a great example of this- it’s like seeing your muscles get bigger.
Becky: What about seeing your bank account grow? I like that.
Peter: That’s a good one too, Becky! So listeners, after finishing each lesson...
Becky: ...if you click on the “Mark Lesson as Complete” field, our system will track your progress...
Peter: ...and you can see how much you’ve accomplished.
Becky: There are dynamic charts on your dashboard that show you the percentage you’ve completed...
Peter: ...of the lessons and learning paths you are taking.
Becky: For example, you might see that you’re 90% finished with the Survival Phrases series...
Peter: ....and you’ve completed 100% of Absolute Beginner series.
Becky: So, with the Dashboard, you can track how much you’ve learned...
Peter: ...and seeing your results helps you stay motivated, guaranteed.
Becky: Number three- Read lines from the lesson dialogue out loud, slowly.
Peter: Then re-read and increase your speed. This tactic is very powerful for two reasons.
Becky: So you can read faster?
Peter: And so you can speak faster, Becky. If you’re reading out loud...
Becky: ...it’s almost like you’re speaking?
Peter: Exactly. This trains you to speak faster in general.
Becky: Right. That’s something most beginners struggle with.
Peter: So listeners, if you’re struggling with speaking skills...
Becky: ...try this strategy right now.
Peter: With every lesson, you get a dialogue. Read along with the line by line transcript..
Becky: ...or with the lesson notes. Read out loud slowly once...
Peter: ...then re-read a bit faster, then again, and keep increasing your speed...
Becky: ...until you can say the lines comfortably and sound like a native.
Peter: And native speakers WILL notice the difference if you can speak and respond quickly.
Becky: Definitely. It’s a sign that you understand them...
Peter: ...and that they don’t have to treat you like a beginner. It's a great compliment to get.
Becky: Number four- Review old lessons to master them completely.
Peter: Listeners, reviewing is a tried and tested strategy.
Becky: The previous strategy is a form of reviewing, isn’t it? Rereading lines?
Peter: Exactly, Becky. But listeners, the more times you go over something...
Becky: ...the better you get at it...
Peter: ...guaranteed. So for example, if you try our listening comprehension series...
Becky: ...and you only understand about 40%, review the lesson a few times.
Peter: You have the translations right in front of you. The answers are right there.
Becky: And by the third or fourth try, you’ll understand it 100%.
Peter: It’s like that quote goes- Repetition is the mother of all learning.
Becky: Alright, number 5- Download the dialog tracks and listen to the conversations.
Peter: Listeners, this is a super popular immersion tactic.
Becky: Here’s how it works. After you’re done with a lesson, download the dialog track.
Peter: With this, you get JUST the dialog – the conversation – in your target language.
Becky: Then, make a playlist of the dialog tracks. Each track is usually about 10 to 30 seconds long.
Peter: Download them to your device and play them on repeat. That’s it.
Becky: Yeah, it’s like listening to music on repeat. It gets drilled into your head...
Peter: ...except you’re immersing yourself in the target language.
Becky: Your listening skills will improve, and you’ll understand each and every conversation!
Peter: Listeners, let us know what your favorite learning strategies are.
Becky: Leave us a comment!
Peter: And remember...
