Dana: Hi, everyone. I'm Dana.
Mirai: And I'm Mirai.
Dana: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in Swedish about a concert. Anders goes to a concert, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment.
Mirai: Köat fyra timmar men snart är det dax! Kan knappt vänta!
Dana: Meaning - "Queued for four hours, but it's almost time! Can barely wait!" Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.

Mirai: Köat fyra timmar men snart är det dax! Kan knappt vänta!
Dana: "Queued for four hours, but it's almost time! Can barely wait!"
Mirai: (SLOW) Köat fyra timmar men snart är det dax! Kan knappt vänta! (Regular) Köat fyra timmar men snart är det dax! Kan knappt vänta!
Dana: Let's break this down. First is an expression meaning "It's almost time!"
Mirai: Snart är det dax! "äre" is short for "är det"...
Dana: ...meaning "is it."
Mirai: "Dax"...
Dana: ...is slang for "time," so the expression just means “it's almost time.” It can be used independently or another part can be added. For example…
Mirai: Det är snart dax för helg.
Dana: ”It's almost time for the weekend.” Listen again. "It's almost time!" is...
Mirai: (SLOW) Snart är det dax! (REGULAR) Snart är det dax!
Dana: Then comes the phrase "can barely wait!"
Mirai: Kan knappt vänta!
Dana: This is an expression used when someone is excited about something. It can be used independently or another part can be added. For example...
Mirai: Kan knappt vänta till semestern.
Dana: “Can barely wait till the holidays!” Listen again. "Can barely wait!" is...

Dana: All together, it's "Queued for four hours, but it's almost time! Can barely wait!"

Hej Uday,

Good question. These are all slang words! They're used in common language, especially among younger teens and adults, but it's getting more and more common for all ages to use them. They're not used in writing (except social media maybe). They're very common in Swedish. ?

For example "äre" is "är det" put together when spoken quickly. "Dax" is "dags".

Hej

Orden som används här ser väldigt konstigt ut. Jag hörde aldrig eller sett dessa ord innan ...som "det dax", "äre", "palla". Är dessa vanliga ord ??
