Swedish Survival Phrases lesson 11 - Business Greetings - Welcome!
Today, we’ll cover greetings you will hear when you enter some kind of business establishment. In Swedish, the polite greeting when entering a place of business is Välkommen.
Välkommen.
Let’s break it down by syllable: Välkommen.
Now, let’s hear it once again, Välkommen.
This means “welcome” and is used when you enter a restaurant or place of business. In Swedish, in more casual situations, the owners might say Hej.
Hej.
Let’s break it down by syllable: Hej.
Now, here it is once again, Hej.
This just means “Hello.” So what you do when someone welcomes you. The most natural thing would be to answer with “thank you” as necessary. The Swedish thank you is tack. Check out our previous lessons for other ways to express thanks. This is not just limited to places of business. You might wanna thank the host at a party as well for welcoming you to his or her house.
As for when you will you get a hello, hej, when entering a business establishment, you should just respond likewise with hej or perhaps a nod, depending on how mysterious you want to appear.
