I started learning Swedish mainly because I'm into languages and linguistics. I knew it belongs to Germanic languages just as English and German but it really made me happy of how much it reminds me of German! I don't speak German anymore but I do understand it here and there.

Hi John,

Thank you for pointing this out. You're right, there are still a minority there that speaks Swedish. Thank you for you input and let us know if you have any questions.

Hej

The second paragraph in the 3rd section about where Swedish is spoken is oddly worded. How can the people in those regions have died out if there are still Swedish speakers living there today? Swedes were, and still are to a small degree, all over the coastal area of Estonia, not just in one island.

Hej Theresa,

Wow that's very interesting! I hope you find what you're looking for. I tried to do some research on my family's history but unfortunately I ran into a dead end. I hope you have better luck! ?

I am learning in part so I can complete genealogy on my great grandmother, who immigrated from Sweden.

Hi Lena,

That's great! Have you seen the Swedish movie "Lรฅt den rรคtte komma in"? It's very good. :innocent:

As for me, I started learning Swedish because I simply love learning languages, I teach them, I learn them, I enjoy them! And I'm an ABBA fan too. But these reasons are also really motivating. They inspired me.

"rivalry between Sweden and Denmark."

Well, that explains why I seem to only ever see Sweden and Denmark in inter-Scandinavian TV debates.
