Matt: Top 25 Swedish Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 7 “Where did you learn Swedish?” In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll encounter a common question for Swedish learners, then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then, through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question “Where did you learn Swedish?” In Swedish this is
Engla: Var lärde du dig svenska?
Matt: The first word in the question is
Engla: var
Matt: meaning “where” in English.
Engla: (Slow, by syllable) var
Matt: Listen again and repeat.
Engla: var
{Pause}
Matt: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Engla: lärde
Matt: meaning “learned.”
Engla: (Slow, by syllable) lärde
Matt: Now repeat.
Engla: lärde
{Pause}

Engla: du
{Pause}
Matt: Listen to the first three words of the question and repeat.
Engla: var lärde du
{pause}
Matt: Next is
Engla: dig
Matt: meaning “you.”

Hej Evan T!

Thank you for your comment and thank you for being a member for such a long time!

I am sorry that you feel disappointed in this lesson! And thank you for your suggestions!

Yes, you would say "Jag lärde mig svenska på internet", or "Jag lärde mig svenska från internet". "på" sounds a bit more natural! So great job! Bra jobbat :thumbsup: :innocent:

I hope you won't be disappointed in the lessons to come!

Have a great day! Vi ses!

I've been a member of this site for nearly two years. I love it. I have learned so much Swedish that it scares me.

But, I must say that this lesson is the first one I've been disappointed in. You failed to include the method of learning that every member of this site is using: "by internet." Would I say "på internet?"

Also, I think it would have been helpful to learners if you had mentioned that "Jag lärde mig" literally means "I taught myself."
