Hej, jag heter Elin. Hi everybody! I’m Elin.
Welcome to SwedishPod101.com’s “Svenska på tre minuter”. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Swedish.
In the last lesson we learned how to count kronor. Did you practice at home?
In this lesson, we're going to learn useful tips to talk about your schedule - for example, if a friend asks you "What are you doing this weekend?"
Let’s start!
To ask a friend or someone you already know, you say-
Vad ska du göra i helgen?
[slowly] Vad ska du göra i helgen?
Let’s break that down.
Vad is "what".
ska du göra is "going to do".
du means “you.”
And i helgen is "this weekend"
It’s a fairly easy sentence to remember and would be translated as “What are you doing this weekend?”
What if you’re not asking about this weekend?
Asking about a different time period is as easy as replacing i helgen.
Tomorrow is i morgon. So you can also say Vad ska du göra i morgon? which is “What are you doing tomorrow?” Or, you could also add the day of the week, like måndag, "Monday" or söndag, which is "Sunday". Watch out here though, the preposition i would change to på, making the sentence:
Vad ska du göra på måndag?
Vad ska du göra på söndag?
So now, if someone asks *you* Vad ska du göra i morgon?, or "What are you doing tomorrow?", how can you answer?
Here's an example- jag ska jobba. "I'm going to work." jag ska means "I'm going to", Jobba means “work,” as in the verb “to work”. Feel free to replace "work" with any other activity!
Now it’s time for Elin’s Insights.
When you are wondering what someone is about to do or where they are going, a casual way to ask this is “Vad händer?”. This literally means “What’s happening?” and is a very useful phrase.
In this lesson we learned how to talk about your schedule. Next time we are going to learn how to use the verb att vara "to be". Do you know how to tell people your nationality?
I'll be waiting for you in the next Svenska på tre minuter.
Vi ses nästa gång!
