Swedish Survival Phrases Lesson 57 - Avoid getting caught in the rain with weather vocabulary.
Whether or not the weather will cooperate with your plans is an important question! In this lesson, we'll cover a phrase that will help you finalize your plans if they depend on the weather.
In Swedish, "What will the weather be tomorrow?" is Vad blir det för väder imorgon?
Vad blir det för väder imorgon?
Let's break it down by syllable: Vad blir det för väder imorgon?
Now, let's hear it once again: Vad blir det för väder imorgon?
The first word Vad means "what."
Then comes Blir, which in Swedish is "becomes."
Blir.
Blir.
So, to recap here, we have Vad blir. Literally, this means "what becomes."
Let's take a look at the next words: Det, which means "it."
Then we have För, meaning "for" or in this case, "type of."
Let's break down this word and hear it one more time: För.
För.
This is followed by Väder, which in Swedish is "weather."
Väder.
And lastly, we have Imorgon, which means "tomorrow."
Imorgon.
Imorgon.
All together, we have Vad blir det för väder imorgon? Literally, this means "What kind of weather is it becoming tomorrow?"
Let's look at some possible answers. In Swedish, "It will rain" is Det kommer att regna.
Det kommer att regna.
Det kommer att regna.
Det kommer att regna.
In Swedish, "It will snow" is Det kommer att snöa.
Det kommer att snöa.
Det kommer att snöa.
Notice that the only word that changes here is the final one. "It will rain" is Det kommer att regna. And, "It will snow" is Det kommer att snöa. So, only the last word changes.
In Swedish, "It will be sunny" is Det kommer att blir soligt.
Det kommer att blir soligt.
Det kommer att blir soligt.
And in case, you're somewhere where the weather can change real quickly, in Swedish, Vad blir det för väder idag?
Vad blir det för väder idag?
Let's break it down by syllable: Vad blir det för väder idag?
Now, let's hear it once again: Vad blir det för väder idag?
Notice that the only part the changes is the last word. We just replace the word for "tomorrow," Imorgon, with the word for "today," Idag. You can change this to any other time expression. For instance, "next week," Nästa vecka, or "on Saturday," På lördag, or even on your birthday, På min födelsedag.

Outro

Okay, to close out this lesson, we'd like for you to practice what you've just learned. I'll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you're responsible for saying it aloud. You'll have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so Lycka till. Okay, here we go!
