Thank you for pointing out that this seems confusing.


"Familj" does mean family in English, and "släkt" means relatives. How this is used in Swedish can vary a little. Some talk about family as only the people you live with, others with the relatives you are close to, and some for extended family. We usually don't use the word "släkt" unless it's more distant family that we aren't very close to.


I hope this helps a little.

I really appreciate this lesson, but I'm confused. You have släkt listed as the word for "family" yet in every example you use "familjen" or some variation of that for "family." Please clarify! Thanks.
